Parent Involvement

PARENT INVOLVEMENT AND RESPONSIBLITIES
Westhills Baseball is one of today's premier youth athletic programs. Since our opening day over 40 years ago, our program has been made possible by the support and hard work of our parents. Here are a few of your responsibilities as the parent of a child playing at Westhills Baseball as well as some ways you can get involved.
Games & Practice
- Make sure your player is on time for games and practices. Youth baseball is a commitment that we encourage our parents to not take lightly. If your child is to improve and function as part of the team it is important for them to attend the practices and games. That said, we know that many players are involved in soccer, football, etc. during the fall and understand that baseball may not be the first priority.
- It is your responsibility to pick up your child promptly at the end of practice. Managers are required to stay until the last player has been picked up. Parents of younger players (especially Shetland and Pinto) should remain at the facility during practice.
Honor the Game
- Set a good example for all the players at Westhills Baseball by showing respect at all times for the managers, coaches and umpires who work hard to make this a positive experience for your child. There may be a time when you have an issue with the coaching staff, an umpire or another fan. Don't lost your temper. Seeing a parent lose control in view of the children is not a lesson any parent wants their child to learn. While communication is good, wait until you are less emotional and the conversation can be held in private. If you have spoken to your team manager and feel you need to address the issue further, please contact your division's player agent. We welcome parents constructive feedback as it may inform us of things that need attention. Please try to remember that we are all parents and volunteers donating our time and trying to do the best we can.
- Always remember that win or lose, your child is a winner when he gives 100%, plays by the rules, shows good sportsmanship, and takes pride in his accomplishments.
Snack Shack
- The Snack Shack provides a great selection of sandwiches, beverages and snacks. It's also one of the primary sources of funding for the Westhills Baseball program and facility. So please support WHB by not bringing in outside food and drinks and instead, treat your family to tasty items from our extensive menu!
- Each family is required to work one 4-hour Snack Shack shift in the fall. In order to ensure the smooth running of the Snack Shack, parents only are permitted to work their family's Snack Shack shift. Working in the Snack Shack is a great way to meet other parents and learn more about the WHB program.
- Each Snack Shift may only be rescheduled once. To cancel and reschedule a shift you must provide notice at least 72 hours before the scheduled shift. If you don't provide this notice, you will not be given an opportunity to reschedule and your $150 deposit check provided at registration will be cashed.
Volunteer
- Please take the time to get involved with our league. There is something to do for everyone and your efforts will be greatly appreciated by all the families that use our facility. Additionally, players that are doing well and having the most fun often have strong parental involvement. Here are just a couple of ways you can volunteer your time:
- Manager or Coach: The team Manager is responsible for the overall organization of a team "on the field" and for instructing the players on proper game play. The team Manager sets practice locations and times, and maintains the team's equipment. The Coaches assist the manager in running the team, as necessary.

- Auxiliary Member: These are the parents who run the Snack Shack. In the fall, Auxiliary members typically work one 3-hour shift every other weekend and are responsible for overseeing the food preparation and stocking, cash receipts, and providing guidance to parents working their required shifts. If you're interested and/or would like additional information, please contact our Auxiliary President:

- Field Preparation: After each game, a couple of parents on the home team need to drag and rake the field to prepare it for the following game. This is a job greatly appreciated by your team's manager and coaches because otherwise, it's their responsibility.

Most of all, please make Westhills a place that your family can come and spend the day with friends and enjoy the game we all love!
